THE DEGENERATES SHADOWCAST!

NEXT SHOW:
SHOW: "REPO! The Genetic Opera" (2008)
WHEN: Friday, (Sometime in July?) 2012, around 10pm
DIRECTOR: Tor Johnson (fill-in director for this show)
CAST'S WEBSITE: http://degenerates.webstarts.com

AUDITIONS for the Summer 2012 show are April 13th, 2012, at 10pm at the Beach Theatre! Wear comfy shoes and clothes. Have a scene from the movie prepared. The cast will judge on screen-accuracy and acting ability (no acting experience required; but be believable!). There is more than one Shilo cast (either 2 or 3) and Nathan is separate from Repo. Other than that, all parts are filled by 1 actor only. Those who don't get their chosen role are asked to play Genterns or various other roles, like Rotti's interviewer, victims, etc. Tech and Security positions are also needed. Anyone interested in any role should come to the theatre on 4/13 to fill out an audition form and to find out more information. People will probably be asked to stay outside while people are inside auditioning, so please bring a chair, a blanket, a portable DVD player, and anything else you might want to pass the time. The cast is responsible for everything regarding auditions and the show, not the theatre. If you're unable to make it to the audition, please contact the cast so that a makeup audition might be possible. Rehearsals will most likely be on Friday nights from about 10pm to 1am at a location to be determined.

(Watch in a New Window)
ABOUT THE SHOW: The "Degenerates" cast will perform this movie while it is being shown on screen. Please note that the movie is rated R, which means that anyone under age 17 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. This movie contains sexual situations, adult themes, violence, drug use, death scenes, and brief partial nudity.

STORY: "In the year 2056 - the not so distant future - an epidemic of organ failures devastates the planet. Out of the tragedy, a savior emerges: GeneCo, a biotech company that offers organ transplants, for a price. Those who miss their payments are scheduled for repossession and hunted by villainous Repo Men. In a world where surgery addicts are hooked on painkilling drugs and murder is sanctioned by law, a sheltered young girl searches for the cure to her own rare disease as well as information about her family's mysterious history. After being sucked into the haunting world of GeneCo, she is unable to turn back, as all of her questions will be answered at the wildly anticipated spectacular event: The Genetic Opera." - Written by "Lionsgate" as posted on IMDB.com. Retrieved 6/11/2010.

STARRING: Anthony Stewart Head (from TV's "Buffy the Vampie Slayer") as Nathan Wallace / Repo Man, Alexa Vega (from "Spy Kids" movies) as Shilo Wallace, Paul Sorvino (from "Goodfellas") as Rotti Largo, Sarah Brightman (famous soprano) as Blind Mag, Paris Hilton (famous heiress) as Amber Sweet, Bill Moseley (from "Devil's Rejects") as Luigi Largo, Nivek "Ogre" (of the band "Skinny Puppy") as Pavi Largo, Terrance Zdunich as Graverobber, and others.

REVIEW: Title: "Nothing Like It" [10/10 stars]

"This movie... this entire experience, it was like nothing I've ever been to in my life."

"People are asking whether or not this type of movie will gain 'cult' status, but the fact of the matter is... it already has. To quote Darren: 'I'm standing up here, and I see that seventy percent of you are in costume, and the others are saying 'Damnit, why didn't I dress up?'.' Dressing up isn't all that makes a cult [classic], the fans are. The fact of the matter is, this movie has a rabid, feasting fanbase that would gladly hog-tie and grapple you... just so that you have the experience of seeing it."

"This movie is worth far more than anything I've seen in theatres for years. It is easily the most unique experience of my life."

"I'd rather see something completely unique, even if it's offensive, gritty, shot with [a] hand-held camera and staring sock puppets than watch anymore of the 'wannabe' good movies that have been coming out. These 'Masterpieces' that people consider to be SO amazing have nothing on a movie like this. This movie is untouchable; it is completely beyond all words."

"Everything about this movie has a unique touch that is completely noticeable in absolutely every scene and song. It is an insult to creativity and artistry that a movie such as this should be shoved into only seven cities and outcasting all those who want to watch it so badly."

"Myself and two friends drove down from Canada to watch it in Seattle... and some of the people at our showing were from Texas. This movie will surpass any movie this year through the years, simply because of the fans."

"Do NOT miss watching this movie. If you can watch it, even if the theatre is three or four hours away... DO IT. Go in costume, shriek and have the best time of your life." - Written by "Bligy Bob" on IMDB.com. Retrieved 6/11/2010.

WHO ARE THE DEGENERATES?
They're a group of friends who love the movie "Repo! The Genetic Opera" (2008) and decided to form a cast to perform the movie on stage as it plays on a movie screen (also called a "shadowcast"). There are shadowcasts all over the country (and possibly the world) that perform this movie! If you've seen a cast perform "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" (1975), this show is done the same way, including the audience shouting out AP (audience participation) lines (Rocky Horror also plays at this theatre and a few of "The Degenerates" cast members are on the Rocky cast!) The Degenerates cast members have also branched out to perform "Little Shop of Horrors" (1986).

BEFORE THE SHOW - MEET THE CAST!
Before the show, cast members will be in their costumes and makeup, so if you'd like to meet and/or get pictures with them, this is the time.* There will also be entertainment before the show (an emcee introduction and maybe a live band or cast members performing a skit). We'll post info about the preshow here once we're notified (bookmark this page).
(* Send a picture of you at an event at the Beach Theatre and it could be posted on our Photos page [try to get the theatre in the background.])

DURING THE SHOW - AP LINES!
Many super-fans of the show know AP (audience participation) lines and will shout them out during the movie. This is part of the experience, just like in Rocky shows, but it means that you probably won't hear all of the movie, so we recommend watching it before going to a show. Please note that some AP lines may contain profanity, sexuality, and/or other possibly offensive material, so this show may not be appropriate for all audiences. Parental discretion is advised.

NOTE: NOT FOR ALL AUDIENCES
This movie is rated R, which means that anyone under age 17 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to be admitted into this show. Violence/Blood: The movie contains scenes of organ "repossessions" where people are killed in order for their organs to be repossessed for non-payment. The movie contains a stabbing, a shooting, a neck being broken, a throat being cut, eyes being gouged out, someone being slashed with a knife and someone being impaled. There is a lot of blood shown in the movie. Sexuality: The movie contains a "flash" of a woman's bare chest and the actor in the live show might do the same, at their discretion. There is some grinding and simulated sexual positions, although the actors are clothed (including female-on-female interactions).

AFTER THE SHOW - TIPS ACCEPTED
The members of the cast perform out of love for the movie and none of them are paid for their part in the show. To pay for props, lights, and other show costs, the cast members collect tips after the show that will be used to fund future shows. Each cast member volunteers their time for rehearsals and their own money for costumes and makeup. Luckily, the cast is able to borrow the spotlights and other items from "Interchangeable Parts," the Rocky Horror cast that performs on Saturdays.
