Hunter S Thompson
On Friday, September 19th, we invite you to join us for two looks into the crazed genius of HUNTER S. THOMPSON by showing you a documentary called "Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson" at 8 p.m. and the 1998 film "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" at 10:30 p.m. as part of a drug-crazed Hunter S. Thompson Double Feature!

We'll start off the craziness at 8 p.m. with "Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson," a documentary directed by Alex Gibney (who last directed the Academy Award winning TAXI TO THE DARK SIDE). The documentary is all about Thompson's wild life, featuring Jonny Depp, who closely studied Thompson while preparing to play him in a film (the two actually became very good friends, in fact).

Then, at 10:30 p.m., we're pulling out the supreme weirdness of "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas," which also stars Johnny Depp as Hunter S. Thompson. Terry Gilliam directed this visually astounding masterpiece of hilairity. Benicio Del Toro stars as Thompson's "lawyer" and the two of them ingest every drug known in the '70s and hit the town in Las Vegas!

Tickets are $7 each or $10 for both films! You can get tickets in person at the Box Office or through The Beach Theatre's Online Box Office

"Fueled by a raging libido, Wild Turkey, and superhuman doses of drugs, Thompson was a true "free lance, " goring sacred cows with impunity, hilarity, and a steel-eyed conviction for writing wrongs. Focusing on the good doctor's heyday, 1965 to 1975, the film includes clips of never-before-seen (nor heard) home movies, audiotapes, and passages from unpublished manuscripts. "The film (narrated by Johnny Depp, who played Thompson in 'Fear & Loathing In Las Vegas'...) delves back to [Thompson's] association with the Hells Angels in the mid 1960's... to his being embraced by the whole Hippie counter culture of the later half of that era (along with massive intakes of various drugs), to writing several novels in the early to mid 1970's, to his subsequent downward spiral (in the creative sense), to his eventual death in 2005 by suicide (and his unorthodox memorial service)" - Seamus2829 on IMDB.com

"An adaptation of Hunter S. Thompson's novel of the same name. The film details a whacky search for the "American Dream", by Thompson and his crazed, Samoan lawyer. Fueled by the massive amount of drugs they purchased with an advance from a magazine to cover a sporting event in Vegas; they set out in the Red Shark. Encountering police, reporters, gamblers, racers, and hitchhikers; they search for some undefinable thing know only as the "American Dream" and find fear, loathing and hilarious adventures into the dementia of the modern American West. (Written by J. D. Keith)" - From IMDB.com

"Love it so much it hurts. There are so many great lines, and moments. To [SIC] many to count. Johnny Depp should have received an Oscar for it. His performance is nothing short of genius." - lord_zorbon on IMDB.com
